Frequently Asked Questions *

Tickets

I can’t find my ticket or remember what I’ve bought. What should I do?

We would ask that you please double check your emails, including your spam folder. If you still can’t locate them, please drop us an email to wrootrocks.info@gmail.com, with the name and email address you used for the booking. One of the team will then be in touch to try and sort it.

We’ve changed our website platform since the tickets originally went to sale. If you purchased your tickets before November, you will have received tickets with a QR code. After that date, the Order Confirmation email you received acts as your tickets. We work from a printed list of names at the gate, so we do not routinely need to see your tickets. However, please make sure you have them readily available in the event of any issues (on your phone or printed).

Can I buy a day ticket, so my friends can visit?

We do not offer day tickets. The festival is licensed by the Local Authority, who place a strict limit on the number of people who can attend. We therefore cannot accept any visitors, so just remind your friends to buy tickets for next year as soon as they’re available…..

Location

Where is Gig in a Field held?

The festival is held at The Nook, a field about half a mile outside the village of Wroot. If you approach through the village, the field is on your right. Please be careful as the roads around Wroot are not the best. If you are towing or driving a large vehicle, we would recommend approaching the site from the west, via Blaxton and Wroot Road, rather than via Idle Bank.

 The postcode is DN9 2BZ

The What Three Words for the entrance is //adhesive.snug.settle

Timings

What time do the gates open?

We are opening the site the day before the music officially starts, so you can come, get set-up early, and chill out with friends, and enjoy our Open Mic session. There is no extra cost to arrive on Thursday. The site opening times for new arrivals are as follows:

Thursday 6th August

Gates open at 1.00pm (please do not arrive before this time)

Gates close at 7.00pm

Friday 7th August

Gates open at 10.00am

Gates close at 4.00pm

Saturday 8th August

Gates open at 10.00am

Gates close at 4.00pm

We are really sorry that we are unable to accept new arrivals outside of these times.

You will be able to leave the site later than the gate closure times listed above – these times are just for people arriving on site. The gates are generally locked at midnight.

If you arrive in the area earlier than expected, there’s a couple of fantastic places close by to grab breakfast or lunch:

Walkers Garden Centre Restaurant, Mosham Road, DN9 3BA – opens at 9am

McCallums Farm Shop Café, Bank End Road, DN9 3NT – opens at 9am

Is there an Open Mic Session?

Thursday night is Open Mic Night! The wonderful Russ Torr from Darwin’s Rejects will be hosting an open mic from around 5pm. If you fancy the chance to perform on the Gig in a Field Main Stage, please drop us an email to wrootrocks.artists@gmail.com (please note, this is only open to those with tickets for festival).

What are the Stage Times?

When do we have to leave the site?

We ask that you leave the site by 12noon on Sunday.

Camping

What facilities are there in the field?

There are portaloos, drinking water, and a chemical disposal point. We do not have any electric hook ups or showers on this site. The site is not too big, and you can walk from the stage area to all points on site within a couple of minutes.

We want to camp with our friends. Can we save them a space?

The site is relatively small, and we have to be fairly strict in terms of where and how people park and pitch. The last thing we want is to run out of space! Unfortunately, you will not be able to reserve spaces for friends who are arriving at a later time. We would suggest that you make plans to arrive together.

We would ask that you please follow the instructions of the team, and park / pitch where directed. Please do not try and squeeze in elsewhere, as we have safety guidelines we need to abide by.

Can we park our car next to our tent or caravan?

Unfortunately, we simply do not have the space on the field to allow vehicles to be parked next to tents. We really want everyone to have the space to relax, rather than trying to cram everyone in. We have also been advised that this is not recommended for safety reasons.

You will be able to drive to your pitch to offload your car, but request that you move your vehicle to the car park at your earliest convenience. We cannot allow any exceptions to this, so please do not be upset if you are asked to move your vehicle. If you refuse, you may be asked to leave the site without refund.

You will also be able to bring your vehicle to your pitch to load up when you are leaving the site. If you need help at any point to pitch a tent or carry belongings, please let one of the team know.

You will be able to park one car next to your caravan, but it must remain uncoupled.

Do you have designated areas for tents & campervans?

Yes, we do, and you will be directed to the right area on arrival. If your group requires different types of pitches, there are certain rules you must follow for safety reasons. Please note that no live-in vehicles are permitted in the tent area, so if you have both, you will be directed to the live-in vehicle area.

Please note that you must have a pitch ticket for each unit you bring, e.g. if you are bringing a campervan and a tent, you will need two camping passes - this includes pup tents.

Can we use an awning?

We want everyone to have a space to chill with friends, so we do allow small awnings. We ask that you are respectful of other campers and keep your space to an area comparable to the size of your group.

We understand that this is an amazing opportunity to enjoy, celebrate and have a couple of drinks. We just please ask that you are respectful, and considerate your neighbours, particularly after midnight.

Can we use a portable generator?

Portable petrol / diesel generators are strictly prohibited. Please do not bring them onto the site.

Food & Drink

Will there be food vans?

We will have our usual fantastic selection of food vans on site:

Devon’s Kitchen – Jamaican soul food (vegan and gluten free options available)

Yamas – Greek street food

Wallace & Dough – Wood fired pizzas (vegan option available)

Time & Plaice – Fish & Chips

Time & Plaice – Pie Van

Choc & Cheese – Desserts (gluten free options available)

Coffee at Heathers – Barista coffee & drinks

We look forward to the food almost as much as the music!

We’re swopping the main food vans across the event, so you’ve got plenty of variety:

Thursday from 5pm: Yamas, Pie van

Friday from 12 noon: Yamas, Wallace & Dough, Fish & Chips

Saturday from 12 noon: Devons Kitchen, Wallace & Dough, Pie Van

The Village Hall team are also doing breakfast rolls on Saturday morning. We believe there’ll be a pre-ordering process for these. We’ll keep you updated.

As always, you are more than welcome to bring your own food into the stage area. We just ask that you do not bring any glass into the arena and make sure you clear up after yourselves.

Will the traders / merch stands accept cards?

Most of the traders accept cards, however, we do struggle with signal, so best to bring plenty of cash.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

Absolutely, you are welcome to bring alcohol onto site and into the stage area. However, please be aware that glass is prohibited in the stage area, so ask that you decant any bottles in plastic cups before taking it to this area.

Will there be a bar?

Absolutely, for the first time we will be running our own Wroot Rocks bar at the festival. This will be a similar set up to the bars we run at the village hall – fairly basic (no cocktails!), but great beers and ciders at very reasonable prices.

We always strive to keep it local and are thrilled to have partnered with some fantastic breweries.

We’ve got two fantastic hand pulled ales from the Pig Barn Brewery in Haxey:

Fools Gold (4.4%) - This beer celebrates the most unique tradition in the world - Haxey Hood. Crafted with pale ale malt, a hint of light crystal malt and Northern Brewer and Tettnang hops. This golden ale tastes like a lager due to the addition of the German hop, Tettnang.

Haxey IPA (4.7%) - This beer is the brewery’s best seller and won the Gainsborough 2022 CAMRA Beer Festival ‘beer of the festival’

There’ll be a stout from our lovely friends at Doncaster Brewery & Tap.

We’re also excited to be joined by the team at Masham Cider Press, who’ll be offering an amazing selection of hand crafted, cold hand pulled ciders. Tim from Masham will be here to chat to you about their fantastic ciders (and hopefully offering the odd free tasting….):

Sunshine Medium Dry Cider (5.5%)

Black Viper Snakebite Cider (5%)

Triple Threat Dry Cider (6%)

Original Dry Cider (6.2%)

l also have a selection of chilled cans of lager, cider, and non-alcoholic drinks, and of course, our famous Baby Guinness!

Our bar prices:

Draught beers & ciders               £5

Cans (lager, cider, non-alcoholic)     £2.50

Spirits (including mixer)                  £3 single

                         £5 double

Bottle of wine £15

Bottle of Prosecco £20

We’ll have our Gig in a Field and Wroot Rocks plastic cups available for sale at the bar (£3 each or two for £5). We’re trying our very best to minimise plastic waste, so will not be using disposable cups. We would really appreciate it if you could purchase one of ours or bring along one of your own pint pots for us to fill. We’re really sorry that we can’t use a deposit scheme for cups, as we do not have the required facilities to wash them up on site.

Other Important Stuff

Can we bring dogs?

We absolutely welcome well-behaved dogs, but please ensure they are kept on a short lead at all times, and you clear up after them. In fact, all well behaved pets are welcome to come along, so long as the situation will not cause them any distress, and they are not likely to unnerve others (maybe leave the snakes and spiders at home…). In fact, cats and tortoises are among our regular Gig in a Field attendees!

Will you be having the Pet Show again?

We absolutely loved the Pet Show last year, and Lauren and Ian did an amazing job organizing it. It will be held at 9am on the Saturday, and we will be advertising the classes closer to the time. Rumour has it that we’ll be having a fancy-dress class again, so get your thinking caps on. It’s totally free to enter and there’s no need to sign up - just turn up on Saturday morning.

Please be aware, this will definitely not be a serious affair (that’s just not our style), just a bit of fun and the chance to see all of our lovely pet family (with some amazing photo opportunities thrown in!)

Unfortunately, we cannot accept any human entrants this year – it makes it too difficult for our judges, who already have an incredibly challenging job deciding between your gorgeous pets.

Will there be merchandise available to buy?

Yes, definitely! It’s one of the best ways to support the festival and the artists. There will be merch stalls in the arena so make sure you pop along and say hi to your favourite artists and check out the merch.

Can we bring camping chairs into the stage area?

You are more than welcome to bring chairs, small tables, picnics, and blankets into the stage area. However, many people prefer to stand and dance. We would therefore ask that you do not set up chairs directly in front of the stage as you may end up in the middle of a mosh-pit 😊

Can we smoke and vape on site?

We do allow smoking and vaping in the campsite and stage area, although we ask that you are mindful of those around you and avoid smoking in close proximity to children.

Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in the Chill Out tent, bar and around the food vans and merch stalls.

Please ensure you carefully dispose of cigarette ends into the ashtrays provided or another suitable receptacle.

Can we use a barbeque or firepit?

Off the ground charcoal-fueled barbeques for the purpose of cooking are permitted, as long as the grass is appropriately protected with a heatproof mat.

Disposable BBQs, firepits and open fires are strictly prohibited.

We all absolutely love a festie firepit. However, we also need to abide by the requests of the amazing landowner who allows us to use this beautiful corner of Lincolnshire. We would ask that you respect this restriction and do not put our team in the difficult position of asking you to extinguish an open fire. Please be aware that we will not be held liable for any damage caused in the event we are required to use a fire extinguisher if polite requests are ignored.

Is there somewhere I can charge my phone?

There will be free, secure phone charging lockets available. We’re not quite sure where these will be yet (probably near the Honesty Shop) so please just ask if you can’t spot them.

What do I need to make sure I bring?

Please do not take this as a complete list, but we’ve done our best to think of things to bring:

Cash / card – to buy loads of amazing merch and food

Phone – for finding friends and taking snaps

Sunglasses – to avoid that glare and just generally look cool

Insect repellant – the horseflies are fierce and feisty at The Nook!

Sun cream – we don’t want any lobsters!

Wellies / waterproof jacket – hopefully you won’t need them, but hey, it’s the English summer!

Baby wipes – for a quick freshen up (please try to buy compostable ones)

Water bottle – please try and stay hydrated at all times. There’ll be drinking water, and free squash available

Torch – guy ropes can be a monster in the dark!

Toiletries – soap, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrush

Plastic pint pot – so we can keep you hydrated from the bar

Medication

Spare warm clothes – the nights can get nippy!

Clothes you no longer wear for the Clothing Exchange

Donations of packs of new children’s underwear for our Clothing Bank Appeal

Plenty of smiles and hugs – because you can never have enough….

Will there be a shop on site if I forget something?

We will have a small shop, with cold drinks, crisps, snacks, some toiletries, and other essentials. There will also be Pot Noodles and a kettle so you can make yourself a quick snack.

This is ‘Pay What You Want / Can’ honesty shop. There will be a donation bucket for you to pay for what you take. However, we know times are incredibly tough. If you are struggling, please, please, please have a drink and a snack on us. No-one will be checking or judging, as we’re all family. We just want everyone to spend a few days escaping from reality and recharging emotional batteries.

After feedback last year, we will be adding suggested prices based on what we paid for the items, but there’s absolutely no pressure to pay these prices.

Please do not feel that you have to put money in the bucket every time you visit the shop. You can just pay at the end of the day, the end of the festival, or even PayPal us when you get home (wrootrocks@gmail.com).

There will be a few things available that we won’t leave out, as we don’t want children to get their hands on them, such as painkillers and Rennies. If there is anything at all you need, please ask one of the team.

If there’s something else you need, or you want to

Can I leave the site and come back again?

You are welcome to leave the site and return if you wish (although we can’t imagine why you would want to!). Please be aware that the gate will be locked between midnight and 8am. If you do leave / return, please be aware that you will not be permitted to take your vehicle onto the camping area, and please take extra care if returning whilst it is dark.

If you do leave the site during the day, please remember to keep your wristband on. For security reasons, you will not be allowed re-entry without it.

Will you be running the raffle again?

Absolutely! We will be selling tickets throughout the festival. Just grab one of our lovely volunteers who’ll be wandering around with books of raffle tickets, or meander down to the Wroot Rocks bar.

As usual, the top prize will be a family ticket to next year’s Gig In a Field (two adults, children, and camping pass).

Unfortunately, due to time and space restrictions, we are unable to accept any donations of raffle prizes.

Will you be running the Clothing Exchange again?

Definitely! There will be gazebo by the stage where you can drop off any clothing in good, clean condition that you no longer wear and have a good rummage to find yourself a new clothing treasure! It’s a fantastic way to refresh your wardrobe, save money and reduce waste.

We will have tables, rails, and hangers available. We don’t have anyone running this stall, so it would be really helpful if you could take a couple of minutes to put out your clothing, so others can admire it. Anything left over at the end of the festival will be donated to The Clothing Bank.

All clothing at the exchange will be ABSOLUTELY FREE. Donating clothes is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. Please feel free to take any items that are of use to you. It doesn’t matter whatsoever if you’ve not brought anything to the exchange.

When we have run the exchange previously, many of you wonderful people have insisted on making a donation to charity when you find your new clothing treasures. We will have a collection bucket for Team Verrico, our incredible local cancer support charity, at the bar if you wish to donate. This is totally optional – please, please, please do not feel obliged to donate.

Will you be running the Clothing Bank Appeal again?

Yes! We will have a collection point for packs of new unopened packs of children’s underwear, vests and socks. The Clothing Bank do an incredible job of tackling clothing poverty, by collecting unwanted clothing and donating it to those most in need. Last year, you guys were absolutely incredible and donated over 100 packs – we’d love to beat that this year. These donations really do make a difference. You made a huge difference to the lives of so many children who are now going to school with clean underwear. So, we are running the appeal again, and there’ll be a collection point by the Honesty Shop.

How can we make your lives easier?

Honestly? By just being your usual awesome, wonderful selves. Seeing our amazing Wroot Rocks community together in a field, smiling, hugging, laughing, enjoying, makes every single one of our many sleepless nights totally and utterly worthwhile.

However, we also recognise that this can be an overwhelming experience. If you do struggle, please just reach out, whether that’s to someone you know, or to us. We can always find you a quiet corner. The one thing that we are sure of is the support and love that exists in a small field in the middle of nowhere every August.

What if I have a question that’s not been covered?

Please just drop us an email to wrootrocks.info@gmail.com, and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible.
